ToolBox

The ToolBox is a dock panel that contains tools that can be used to manipulate the active document. Closely related tools are grouped under the same tab on the ToolBox. The ToolBox is highly context sensitive - its contents change as the type of the active document changes.

If the active document is a data table or a data sequence, the ToolBox contains the following tabs.

All Graphs

This tab contains one tool for each supported series. Selecting a tool on this tab opens the Series Component dialog box with which the user can plot a corresponding series using the data in the active document.

Common Graphs

This tab contains a sub set of the tools on the All Graphs tab. Each tool corresponds to a commonly used series. Selecting a tool on this tab opens the Series Component dialog box with which the user can plot a corresponding series using the data in the active document.

Financial Graphs

This tab contains a sub set of the tools on the All Graphs tab. Each tool corresponds to a series that is mainly used in financial graphs. Selecting a tool on this tab opens the Series Component dialog box with which the user can plot a corresponding series using the data in the active document.

Statistical Graphs

This tab contains a sub set of the tools on the All Graphs tab. Each tool corresponds to a series that is mainly used in statistical graphs. Selecting a tool on this tab opens the Series Component dialog box with which the user can plot a corresponding series using the data in the active document.

Special Graphs

This tab contains a sub set of the tools on the All Graphs tab. Each tool corresponds to a series that is not grouped under the above three tabs. Selecting a tool on this tab opens the Series Component dialog box with which the user can plot a corresponding series using the data in the active document.

Data Tools

Cell Formulas

Select this tool to apply all cell formulas to the active data table, which will cause DataScene to refresh the active data table and all its dependent graphs.

Column Formulas

Select this tool to apply all column formulas to the active data table, which will cause DataScene to refresh the active data table and all its dependent graphs.

Data Sequence

Select this tool to open the Data Sequence dialog box with which the active data sequence can be played back. This is a way of creating animation.

Time Travel

This tool can be selected only if the active document is a time-dependent data table. Selecting this tool opens the Time Travel dialog box with which the active time-dependent data table can be played back. This is a way of creating animation.

Refreshing Lined Data

If the active data table or data sequence is linked to one or multiple files, select this tool to open the Refresh Linked Data dialog box with which automatic reloading from the linked data can be set up. This is a way of graphing and processing real-time data.

If the active document is a graph document, the ToolBox contains only one tab, Graph Tools.

Graph Tools

Animator

This tool can be selected only if the active graph is a time-dependent graph or a graph sequence. Selecting this tool opens the Animation Generator dialog box with which an off-line animation file can be generated using the data in the active document.

Animation Meter

This tool can be selected only if the active graph is a time-dependent graph or a graph sequence. Selecting this tool inserts an animation meter to the active graph if it does not have one. With this tool selected, double clicking on the animation meter on the active graph opens the Animation Meter Editor with which the properties of the animation meter can be customized; single clicking on the animation meter and then pressing the Delete key deletes the animation meter.

Aspect Editor

Select this tool to open the Aspect Editor with which the aspect settings of the active graph can be customized.

Auto Scale

Select this tool to reset the axes of the active graph to the auto-scale mode. This tool can be used to restore the active graph after it has been zoomed with the Magnifier tool.

Cursor Tool

Select this tool to add a moving cursor to the active graph. When the mouse pointer moves inside the active graph, the cursor will be snapped to the closest point on the active series and the coordinates of the point will be displayed on the status bar and on a tooltip near the point. The stay time of the tooltip can be customized on the Behavior: Cursor Tool tab-page of the Program Options dialog box.

Graph Layout

Select this tool to enable interactive editing of the bounding rectangle of the active graph. Once the tool is selected, the bounding rectangle of the active graph is highlighted and can be moved or resized with the mouse.

Graph Sequence

This tool can be selected only if the active graph is a  graph sequence. Select this tool to open the Graph Sequence dialog box with which the active graph sequence can be played back. This is a way of creating animation.

Grow Tool

Select this tool to grow the active series in animation. The number of animation steps can be customized on the Behavior: Grow Tool tab-page of the Program Options dialog box.

Line Tool

Select this tool to enable adding, deleting, and editing of line items on the active graph. A new line item can be added to the active graph by drawing on the graph while keeping the left mouse button pressed; a line item can be deleted by single clicking on it and then pressing the Delete key; a line item can be customized with the Line Editor which can be opened by double clicking on the line item.

Magnifier

Select this tool to zoom in a specific rectangular area on the active graph. The area to be zoomed is specified by moving the mouse pointer into the graph cube and drawing a rectangle while keeping the left mouse button pressed. The Auto Scale tool may be used to restore the graph to its default auto-scale mode after being zoomed.

Pan Tool

Select this tool to enable interactive panning of the active graph. With this tool selected and the mouse pointer inside the graph cube, drag the graph while keeping the left mouse button pressed to pan the graph.

Rotate Tool

Select this tool to enable interactive rotating of the active graph. With this tool selected and the mouse pointer inside the graph cube, drag the graph while keeping the left mouse button pressed to rotate the graph.

Slice Highlight

Select this tool to enable interactive highlight of the slices of the active Pie or Donut series. With this tool selected, move the mouse pointer over a slice to explode it out.

Text Tool

Select this tool to enable adding, deleting, and editing of rich text items on the active graph. A new rich text item can be added to the active graph by single clicking on the desired location; an existing rich text item can be deleted by single clicking on it and then pressing the Delete key; a rich text item can be customized with the Text Tool Editor which can be opened by double clicking on the rich text item.

Time Travel

This tool can be selected only if the active graph is a time-dependent graph. Select this tool to open the Time Travel dialog box with which the active time-dependent graph can be played back. This is a way of creating animation.

Screen Reader

Select this tool to display the graph coordinates of the mouse pointer. The coordinates are displayed on the status bar and on a tooltip near the mouse pointer. The stay time of the tooltip can be customized on the Behavior: Screen Reader tab-page of the Program Options dialog box.
