Series Function Dialog Box
This dialog box is used to perform series
function calculations.
Function
Function Type
The value in this combo-box determines the type of the series function.
Create New Function
Check this radio button to create a new series function - a new
destination series of the type specified in the Function Destination
combo-box will be created.
Edit Existing Function
Check this radio button to edit an existing series function. This radio
button is enabled if only there is at least one destination series of a series
function in the graph.
Function Destination
If the Create New Function radio button is checked, select the type
for the destination series in this combo-box; if the Edit Existing Function
radio button is selected, select the destination series of the series function
to be edited in this combo-box.
Generate Data Table
Select this check box to generate a data table to contain the data of the
destination series.
Function Source
Available
This list box lists the available series that can be selected as the source
series of the series function.
Selected
This list box lists the source series of the series function.
Click this button to move the selected series in the Available list
box to the Selected list box.
Click this button to move all series in the Available list box to
the Selected list box.
Click this button to move the selected series in the Selected list
box to the Available list box.
Click this button to move all series in the Selected list box to the
Available list box.
Move the selected series in the Selected list box one position up.
Move the selected series in the Selected list box one position down.
Value
This combo-box is hidden unless the selected source series in the Selected
list box contains more than two mandatory components. The one selected in this
combo-box will be used as the value
component of the source series of the series function.
Domain
Always include all data
Check this check box to always include all points of the source series in the
series function. If any data point is deleted or added after the application of
the series function, DataScene will still automatically adjust the series
function domain to include all points of the source series.
Minimum
Use this track bar to change the lower limit of the series function domain.
Maximum
Use this track bar to change the upper limit of the series function
domain.
Cubic Spline
This tab-page is visible only when Cubic
Spline is selected in the Function Type combo-box.
Use equal spacing
Check this check box to make the cubic-spline interpolation points
equally spaced in the whole function domain.
Frequency Factor
The value in this spin box less one specifies the number of cubic-spline
interpolation points (excluding the two end points) to be used for each
segment in the source series.
Differentiation
This tab-page is visible only when Differentiation
is selected in the Function Type combo-box. It contains four radio
buttons that represent four different algorithms for use in the Differentiation
series function.
FFT
This tab-page is visible only when FFT is
selected in the Function Type combo-box.
Type
FFT
Check this radio button to perform a FFT calculation.
Inverse FFT
Check this radio button to perform an inverse FFT calculation.
Output
Amplitude
Check this radio button to output the FFT amplitude values into the value
component of the destination series.
Phase
Check this radio button to output the FFT phase values into the value
component of the destination series.
Center at Zero
Check this check box to make the output FFT frequencies center at 0.
Suppose there are N (N = 2m, where m is a
positive number) points in the FFT destination series, without
checking this check box, the FFT frequency range in the destination series

This tab-page is visible only when FFT Filter
is selected in the Function Type combo-box.
Filter Type
The value in this combo-box determine the type of FFT filter function to
use.
Editor
This button is enabled only when the User Defined is selected in
the Filter Type combo-box. Click it to open the Formula
Editor with which the filter function can be edited.
Filter Function
This text box is read only unless User Defined is selected in the Filter
Type combo-box. It contains the expression of the FFT filter function.
Band Filter
This tab-page is automatically shown when Band Filter is selected in
the Filter Type combo-box on the FFT Filter tab-page. It
contains two spin boxes whose values specifies the lower and upper frequencies
in terms of the Nyquist frequency of the band filter window.
Integration
This tab-page is visible only when Integration
is selected in the Function Type combo-box.
Algorithms
This group box contains two radio buttons that represent the two
integration algorithms to use in the Integration
series function.
Baseline Value
The value in this check box will be added to the integrand as an baseline
offset in the Integration series
function.
Moving Average
This tab-page is visible only when Moving
Average is selected in the Function Type combo-box.
Function Parameters
Average Type
The value in this combo-box determines the type of the moving average
algorithm to use in the Moving Average
series function.
Function Period
The value in this spin box specifies the moving average period.
Prior, Future, Central
The check state of these three radio buttons determines the direction
of the moving average.
Nonlinear Fit
This tab-page is visible only when Nonlinear
Fit is selected in the Function Type combo-box.
Function Type
The value in this combo-box determines the type of the model function to
use in the Nonlinear Fit series
function.
Max. Iterations
The maximum number of Levenberg-Marquardt iterations to run before stop.
Editor
This button is enabled only when User Defined is selected in the Function
Type combo-box. Click it to open the Formula
Editor with which the model function can be edited.

This text box is read only unless User Defined is selected in the Function
Type combo-box. It contains the expression of the model function.
Parameter List
Use this grid to add and delete parameters of the model function. To add
a new parameter, begin typing in the row with a "*" in the row
header. To delete a parameter, select the corresponding row by clicking on
the row header and then press the Delete key. The initial values of the parameters can be
edited directly in the Value column. Each parameter can be fixed in
the fit by checking the corresponding check box in the Fixed column.
Fit Gaussian, Fit Lorentzian, Fit Voigt
Each of these three tab-pages is visible only if the corresponding peak
function is selected in the Function Type combo-box (i.e. Gaussian,
Lorentzian, or Voigt) on the Nonlinear Fit tab-page.
Number of Peaks
The value in this spin box specifies the number of the specified (i.e.
Gaussian, Lorentzian, or Voigt) peaks to use in the nonlinear fit.
Peak Positions and Widths
Peak Number
The value in this spin box specifies the peaks whose initial width and
position are to be edited.
Initial Width
The value in this spin box specifies the initial peak width for the
peak specified by the Peak Number spin box.
Initial Position
The value in this track bar specifies the initial peak position for the
peak specified by the Peak Number spin box.
Fit Polynomial
This tab-pages is visible only if Polynomial is selected in the Function
Type combo-box on the Nonlinear Fit tab-page.
Degree of Polynomial
The number in this spin box specifies the degree of the polynomial that
is used as the model function in the fit.
Standard Deviation
This tab-page is visible only when Standard
Deviation is selected in the Function Type combo-box.
Type
Population
Select this radio button to calculate the population
standard deviation.
Sample
Select this radio button to calculate the sample
standard deviation.
Variance
